Oh, Puke.

When the Mister and I built out house, we did bamboo hardwood floors throughout the entire place, except for the master bedroom, which we decked out in wall-to-wall, speckled white berber carpeting. We've been moved in since mid-October, and I've been biding my time. I knew it was only a matter of when one of my wonderful little barfbag puke monsters would unload a steaming pile of half-digested kibble on our beloved carpet. And that day finally has come. I was getting ready for work, blow-drying my hair with the Violent Femmes blasting, and didn't even hear the preliminary hurl noises. Instead, when I finally peeked out of the master bath, I saw my Australian Shepherd, Sophie, guiltily cowering over a fricking enormous pile of brownish-pink vomit in a pool of yellow liquid, already saturated into the carpet. That's always fun to see when you're trying to get out the door in the morning. But anyway, for whatever reason it's so far never even occurred to me to purchase carpet stain cleaner. Suggestions, anyone?

Hiyee, Mrs TK here. I highly recommend considering a purchase of a stain removing appliance, such as the Spot Bot. It automatically floods the area with carpet cleaner, scrubs it in and sucks it back out again. Comes with special pet odor/stain stuff too. Otherwise Resolve, (the foam stuff) is my fave.

I second the Resolve motion....we're housebreaking (feels like forever) and it's a total lifesaver.

From the Queen of Clean's site (I highly recommend her book "Talking Dirty with the Queen of Clean"):
Resist the temptation to wipe up the mess right off the bat. Instead reach for a box of baking soda (Which, as we know, you ALWAYS have on hand!), pour a heavy coat on the accident and walk away...just walk away. Let it dry overnight, and then pick up any large (Now dry) portions with a paper towel, and vacuum up the remainder using only the hose attachment. This will remove the balance of your pets recent deposit, as well as any residual baking soda. For smaller problems simply vaccuum the accident and baking soda away. If needed, follow up with your favorite carpet spotter. (She recommends Spot Shot carpet stain remover)

and if that doesn't work:

Oxy-Clean.

Yes, the infomercial is the most annoying piece of slag to hit the airwaves (second only to Shmann Shmoulter), but it really works.

Thanks for the awesome advice. Since we only have one room carpeted, the machine thing probably wouldn't be the best investment, but I will try the Resolve and/or OxyClean. (And maybe baking soda for next time!)

And ha, I can already hear that dude screaming at me, Boo.

Oh man...I used to housesit for a couple with an Australian Shepherd who, when he got too excited would drank his water too fast which would cause him to puke up whatever he had recently consumed. He also had a talent for vomiting half on the hardwood floor/half on an absorbent floor covering. AND of course, he would end up doing this as I was about to walk out the door or go to bed. Just great...

This is probably way too late but my dad owns a carpet-cleaning business, Hitchcock Enterprises. Call them (at least next time! - hee) and tell them you're my friend - they'll hook you up.

Rub dog puke on the rest of the carpet to match.
